National Bike Week is taking place from 11th to 19th June, to celebrate and promote all that's great about bikes and cycling.
The one week campaign runs in June every year, with bike-themed events organised by local authorities, community groups and cycling groups throughout Ireland.
Events this year include heritage cycles, electric bike races, free bike checks, lunchtime city rides, school cycling events, bike festivals and road races.
Benefits of cycling – did you know?
• Anyone of any age can ride a bike and it’s a perfect chance to spend quality time with friends and family.
• Biking is a very flexible form of exercise: 3 hours of cycling per week can reduce your risk of heart disease by 50%.
• It is the quickest mode of transport in the urban environment for trips up to 6kms.
• Cycling speed is approximately three times that of walking speed.
